Replacing a 90-year-old roof is no small decision — especially when you own a historic home with its' original roof. Because this was such a big investment, we were extremely selective in choosing the right roofer.

We interviewed three other companies before choosing Caleb Arnwine from Gillespie Contracting, and we could not be happier with our decision. From the start, Caleb stood out. His bid was transparent, his track record and portfolio of work were excellent, and he brought a strong, thoughtful point of view on how to tackle such a significant project. On top of that, he’s just a genuinely good guy — someone you feel comfortable trusting with a big project.

Caleb managed to do something we weren’t sure was even possible: he matched our original roof perfectly. He sourced clay tiles from the same manufacturer as the original, in the same finish, allowing us to honor the vision of the home’s original architect. The result is stunning — better than we could have imagined.

Even better? No surprises. The project took exactly three weeks, just as Caleb promised. The cost came in exactly where he said it would. He even coordinated seamlessly with our contractor to handle the installation of a floor’s worth of new windows and vents during the project.

The quality of the work is phenomenal, and his team was fantastic — respectful, professional, always on time, and impressively clean (they even wiped down our windows multiple times during the process). This new roof will last us another 100 years, and Caleb has assured us that he’ll personally handle any future maintenance or repairs. In fact, he even did some minor tile maintenance for us for free while we waited for our project to begin.

Gillespie repaired a long gutter that is part of our old house, along with replacing standard gutters. Caleb talked through our options and gave detailed estimates so we understood what to expect. I have complete trust in the quality of the workmanship. The mesh they added to the gutters should solve our clogged gutter problems! Sometimes, there were lapses in communication, but the result is outstanding, and it all worked out. We will certainly trust them again for our gutter and roofing needs. Thank you!

I recommend Gillespie roofing without any hesitation! I’ve worked with lots of contractors and none of them were as easy as dealing with Gillespie. They removed an original slate roof on my house that has a complicated roofline and replaced it with Grand Manor shingle plus a metal roof section, added two skylights, and replaced gutters and downspouts. They did a beautiful job and were courteous, clean, and professional from beginning to end. They stand by the work they do and their quote was very competitive. They didn’t tack on additional charges as the work was being done. I would hire them again without question!

The Gillespie team aims to please. From start to finish everything was a breeze. I had Gillespie out to install gutters and downspouts on my home. I love them, and they were done quick and with no issue. I also requested a repair on my roof at my businesses office to which Gillespie had someone out the next day. I would recommend to anyone looking for quality work! I will use them whenever I have a roofing issue.

Gillespie did a beautiful job replacing the siding and adding windows on our new home. The whole experience was very easy and collaborative…they made recommendations and were incredibly detailed…even repainting a metal roof because they didn’t believe the color was accurate according to what we picked and what look we were going for. We worked with Matt and he really made the entire process so seamless…He is a great communicator and made sure we were updated at every stage. They were great about sticking to schedule and budget. GCI did a great job on my project. Ken from day one took the time to help exhaust all options to make sure I was getting the right finished product. Never once rushed me or made me feel under pressure to make a decision. Mel’s copper work is a work of art. He’s a true craftsman and takes much pride in his work. It was a decent size project w about 50sq of tapersawn pressure treated cedar with copper pole gutters, valleys, flashing and ridge cap on a 200 yr old house. Like any project this size and complexity on an old structure we ran into some issues but the crew always was responsive and took the time to remedy everything so it was done right. I interviewed multiple contractors and received mumtiple bids. GCI was highly qualified and pricing very fair given the scope of work. Glad I chose them and Highly recommended.

Our luck with contractors over the years hasn’t been the best. We got a new roof on our house 13 years ago just for it to leak within months. The company who did the roof went out of business, so we were pretty much up the creek. After some more bad experiences during the years, my faith in hiring a quality contractor to redo our roof was low. The thought caused anxiety and dread.

However, Gillespie Contracting LLC has renewed my faith in finding a company who is proud of its work and has quality men, both in their trade and just as decent human beings. Not only did they do an amazing job on our new roof, they came out at midnight on a holiday weekend to deal with a snag that rain caused mid-job. They literally ran up our alley to help my neighbor when her dad fell and she needed help lifting him out of the floor. They went above and beyond. We recently upgraded our siding from vinyl to Hardie board and are extremely pleased with the results. Before the project began, the manager visited multiple times to walk us through the plans, explain the work in detail, and address our concerns. The crew installed the Hardie board carefully and did an excellent job at a very reasonable price. Their professionalism, work ethic, and attention to detail were outstanding. From helping us choose the right color and style to discussing nail types, they were thorough and thoughtful throughout the process. I’m very satisfied with both the quality of the installation and the level of service provided.

Caleb and Gillespie Contracting went above and beyond! We’ve had water issues since we moved in 15 years ago and had several companies try to fix the problem. Nothing worked until we started working with Gillespie. We no longer get any water - finally!! We have a Ludowici roof that requires the highest level of craftsmanship and experience to fix. That’s why we went with Gillespie and they did not disappoint. They were professional, flexible and did an absolutely excellent job. Highly recommend Gillespie!!!!!! Caleb was delightful to work with.

From start to finish these guys were first rate. We moved into a new home and needed somebody to confirm the 100 yr old slate roof was in good shape and then maintain it moving forward. Several companies came by and waved their hands and said it was fine, but Gillespie actually did a thorough review, including drone work, and found a number of small but very critical issues. Thanks to them, we were able to address them so that the small issues never turned into a big issue. They did a great job on the repairs, including matching slate so you can hardly tell an area is a replacement. I will definitely work with them again.

I recently had my roof replaced by Gillespie Contracting. Matt and his team were very prompt, efficient, and did a great job overall. Within 1 day, they finished the entire roof and left the area around our home spotless, as if they were never there. Communication was a breeze, they were quick to respond, and they worked around our schedule. I would highly recommend them.

I highly recommend Gillespie Contracting. I knew after my first meeting with Matt that Gillespie was the one I wanted to use for my deck post repairs, and I was right. Matt kept me up to date on permit progress, timing of the repairs, etc., and it was a pleasure dealing with him. He and Mark are both very knowledgeable and they determined a way to replace the bottom of the posts and add concrete footers without having to replace the whole posts. Mark was exceptional at working with the township on the permit, and when I heard him discussing the job with the inspector, it was clear how much he knew, and thanks to his knowledge/expertise, he was able to perform the right amount of work to keep my deck safe, while not having to overdo it and have me pay more than necessary. The work was done well, and I am all around very pleased. Like I said, I highly recommend Gillespie Contracting!

We have been working with Caleb and his team for 4.5 years. They have provided great support for our slate roof, sections of which are 70+ years old. Their annual maintenance (and replacements in targeted areas) have extended the life of the roof and kept us safe and dry! And they are great people to work with. We highly recommend them!

As a major component of my commitment to the house, I take special care to select equally knowledgeable and interested people to help me care for the special needs of an old house. Hiring Gillespie Contracting to replace my slate and copper roof was one of the best decisions I have ever made in this costly adventure of home ownership.

Shall we begin the gushing review with Caleb? He served as project manager, and he made me feel like I was his one and only client (the truth is far from that!). He responded to all the detailed question I could throw at him quickly and with great advice and opinions. He sent me his very best team and they were astonishingly safe and smart, and they worked together like a very competent and well-oiled machine. They were considerate of the yard and kept their workspace contained and tidy. They loved my big dog and helped to keep him safe during the project, always watching out for him when moving trucks around and always closing the gate when leaving.

These guys have mastered the lost art of working with materials that require special treatment. They were true artisans. The end result is a stunning masterpiece that has elevated my home to new heights. I was reluctant to pull the trigger as this is quite an expensive endeavor, but now that the work is done, I can honestly say it is the best money I have spent. And no leaks! I put away all the buckets we needed before, as my new roof is of course not only really pretty, it is waterproof and I won’t have to think about it for another 100 years.

Just had Gillespie do a new asphalt roof on our 100+ year old home that required the tearing off of 2 layers of asphalt and 1 cedar shingle. They also did some cedar shingle siding and new gutters! We saved some money and the job is great. Highly recommended.

We are thrilled with the new slate roof that Gillespie Contracting installed. Caleb was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We had a difficult installation because we had a slate roof on top of a cedar shake roof that needed to be removed. We used ½ to ¾” slate installed using the Slate Tech process. In addition we installed copper gutters and downspouts. The quality of the copper work was just outstanding. The attention to detail was incredible in every way. Throughout the process the team was always sure to clean up the entire worksite every night. They were happy to address any concerns that we had and we would recommend Caleb Arnwine and his team for anyone thinking about installing a new slate roof.
